Canadian Elite Basketball League
🏀 What it is
It’s like fantasy basketball—but instead of the NBA, you draft players from the Canadian pro league and compete with your buddies (or public leagues).
🔧 What you can do on it
From what’s out there so far:
Free to play (big plus)
Create or join leagues with friends
Do a snake draft (classic fantasy style)
Set weekly lineups
Make trades
Scoring is based on real CEBL stats (Reddit)
So if you’ve ever played fantasy hockey or football, it’s that same vibe—just CEBL players.
📅 Timing (important)
It’s tied to the CEBL season (May–August) (Canadian Elite Basketball League)
Leagues and signups are happening right now
Drafts are expected around mid-May 2026 (Reddit)
🤔 Why this is actually kind of interesting
The CEBL is growing fast in Canada, with millions of fans and a younger audience (Canadian Elite Basketball League)—but until now, there hasn’t really been a proper fantasy ecosystem around it.
This fills that gap:
Gives you a reason to follow games more closely
Makes random matchups way more interesting
Good excuse to chirp your buddies all summer 😄
⚠️ A couple of realities (worth knowing)
Because it’s a newer league:
Player turnover can be high (guys leave for overseas contracts mid-season)
Depth isn’t like the NBA, so leagues might be smaller
The platform itself is very new, so expect a few rough edges
🧠 My honest take
If you already follow the Niagara River Lions or just like Canadian hoops, this could be a fun little side game for the summer.
If you’re brand new to the CEBL?
This is actually a sneaky good way to get into it—fantasy kind of forces you to learn players fast.
Thanks for the write up Pops Corrigan!
Go, River Lions
